In a purely political stunt, President Obama decided to delay executive action on immigration until after Election Day to protect Senate Democrats and his hand-picked candidates like Michelle Nunn who support amnesty.
President Obama’s explanation on NBC’s Meet The Press was very telling: “The truth of the matter is—is that the politics did shift midsummer because of that problem.” He added: “When I take executive action, I want to make sure that it’s sustainable.”
What’s worse is that the President still plans to go around the law once it’s too late for Georgians to hold his party accountable. This is Washington politics at its worst.
As the Wall Street Journal writes: “President Obama says he still plans to unilaterally rewrite immigration law—but not until after the election so he can spare Democrats in Congress from the wrath of voters for doing so. And he wonders why Americans are cynical about politics?”
Our Founders created a system of checks and balances to prevent any one branch of government from becoming too powerful. Today, that system is under attack as President Obama continues to circumvent Congress and use executive overreach to pursue his imperial presidency.
The President’s failed policies have created the current illegal immigration crisis. Taking unilateral action on amnesty, now or after Election Day, is not only an abuse of power but extremely dangerous for our national security. Securing our borders and enforcing current laws must remain our top priority.
