U.S. Senator David Perdue Statement On Chuck Schumer’s Refusal To Allow COVID-19 Relief To Pass

ATLANTA, GA – U.S. Senator David Perdue released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked COVID-19 relief for Georgia families again:

“By blocking COVID-19 relief funding, Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats have sent a message that they could not care less about the people of Georgia. My opponent Jon Ossoff has cheered on Schumer’s partisan obstructionism at the expense of families across our state. He’s doing this because Schumer’s super PAC is spending tens of millions of dollars on false ads boosting his candidacy. If elected, he’d be nothing more than a rubber stamp for Democrats as he pushes their radical socialist agenda.”

U.S. Senator David Perdue Statement On Democrats Blocking PPP Aid For Georgians

U.S. Senator David Perdue Statement On Democrats Blocking PPP Aid For Georgians

ATLANTA, GA – U.S. Senator David Perdue released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked Paycheck Protection Program funding for Georgians while Jon Ossoff cheered them on:

“We’ve been working for months to pass much-needed funding for the Paycheck Protection Program, which has saved over 1.5 million jobs in Georgia during the COVID-19 crisis, and Senate Democrats blocked it last night. My opponent Jon Ossoff opposed the PPP solely because I supported it, then he hypocritically attacked it while his own father used the program to save his struggling company. Now, with many Georgians still in desperate need of economic assistance, he’s cheering on his number one donor, Chuck Schumer, and his fellow Democrats as they prevent working families from receiving PPP relief. The people of this state are watching Ossoff side with partisan Democrats over Georgia workers and they will judge him at the ballot box for doing so.”

U.S. Senator David Perdue Statement On Chuck Schumer’s Efforts To Halt COVID-19 Relief For Georgians

U.S. Senator David Perdue Statement On Chuck Schumer’s Efforts To Halt COVID-19 Relief For Georgians

ATLANTA, GA – U.S. Senator David Perdue released the following statement on Chuck Schumer’s attempt to adjourn the Senate before voting on much-needed COVID-19 relief:

“Chuck Schumer’s attempt to adjourn the Senate before we even vote on much-needed COVID-19 relief is among the most shameful displays of partisanship I’ve ever seen. Georgians have been waiting for months for economic relief, hospital funding, and resources to protect our children at school, but now Schumer and his Democrat allies want to send everyone home for weeks for their own selfish political reasons. At the same time, Chuck Schumer’s super PAC is spending tens of millions of dollars backing my opponent Jon Ossoff, who has opposed every effort we’ve made to help Georgians. From the Paycheck Protection Program, which saved 1.5 million Georgia jobs, to the SCHOOL Act, which sought to provide protections for schoolchildren, Ossoff has opposed every single thing we’ve tried to do to help the people of our state. Georgians are watching Schumer’s deplorable conduct and they will judge his chosen Senate candidate accordingly.”

Senator Perdue Speaks with Georgia’s Capitol Beat News about His Results, Experience as a Job Creator

October 20, 2020  |

Filed Under: Latest News, News From The Trail, Press Releases Tagged With: 2020 election, COVID19, david perdue, health care, Jon Ossoff, Paycheck Protection Program

Senator Perdue Speaks with Georgia’s Capitol Beat News about His Results, Experience as a Job Creator

U.S. Senator David Perdue spoke with Dave Williams of Georgia-based Capitol Beat News Service about his bipartisan results for all Georgians, his 40-year business career creating tens of thousands of American jobs, and the stark contrast in this election.

Read Capitol Beat’s profile of Senator Perdue here and below.

Here are some highlights:

On his 40-Year Business Career:

Both Perdue, a former CEO at Reebok and Dollar General, and Trump, a real estate mogul and reality TV show star, were running for elective office for the first time, vying to put their decades of business experience to work in government.

Four years later, as the two Republicans seek re-election on the same Nov. 3 ballot, they point to the jobs they have created as proof positive that they deserve another term. Only the coronavirus pandemic has gotten in the way of what was a booming economy early this year.

“I created tens of thousands of jobs in my work environment,” said Perdue, whose business career also included stints as a vice president at Sara Lee Corp. and Hagar Clothing. “Then, [after joining the Senate], we created 7½ million new jobs before COVID.”

On Providing Historic COVID-19 Relief:

Perdue said it wasn’t easy for him – as a fiscal hawk – to step up and vote for $2.9 trillion in federal relief for businesses and workers affected by COVID-19, including the $660 billion Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

“We saved 1.5 million jobs in Georgia because of the PPP,” he said. “Our community banks did a tremendous job getting this money to the businesses.”

On His Rural Healthcare Solutions During COVID-19:

In recent months, as the COVID crisis left hospitals – particularly in rural communities – short of health-care workers to handle a growing number of patients – Perdue introduced legislation to let rural hospitals employ unused immigration visas to bring in doctors and nurses from overseas.

Perdue also has played a leading role on the overall immigration reform issue, introducing a bill back in 2017 calling for a “merit-based” system based on bringing in more highly skilled legal immigrants into the U.S. and de-emphasizing family connections.

“We have to secure the border and at the same time have a balanced immigration system that allows us to import the right workers to grow our economy,” he said.

On Always Protecting Coverage For Pre-Existing Conditions:

Perdue has joined fellow Senate Republicans in trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which then-President Barack Obama pushed through a Democratic-controlled Congress a decade ago. That stand has opened him up to attacks from Democrats that he opposes requiring health insurance companies to cover Americans with pre-existing conditions.

“I did vote against the Affordable Care Act a number of times,” Perdue said. “But I also voted to protect pre-existing conditions a number of times. … This is a total misrepresentation by the Democrat side.”

Perdue said he supports cracking down on “surprise” billing of health-care costs, along the lines Georgia’s General Assembly pursued during this year’s legislative session.

On The Stark Contrast In This Election:

Perdue campaign ads have portrayed Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff as backing his party’s “radical” agenda, including defunding the police and supporting a government takeover of health care.

“It’s a crystal-clear contrast between a radical takeover of individual freedom and economic opportunity, limited government and individual freedom,” Perdue said. “We’re trying to reopen our economy and get schools reopened.”

U.S. Senator David Perdue Speaks To Brunswick News On Re-Election Priorities

October 16, 2020  |

U.S. Senator David Perdue Speaks To Brunswick News On Re-Election Priorities

As he campaigns across Georgia, U.S. Senator David Perdue is highlighting his results-driven leadership on the issues that matter most to the people of this state. Senator Perdue spoke with the Brunswick News on his re-election priorities, ranging from COVID-19 relief to public safety to exposing Jon Ossoff’s radical socialist agenda.

Here are some of the highlights:

On COVID-19:

“When COVID-19 began, we acted with unprecedented steps to protect the public, shutting down the entire economy. I worked to secure $46 billion in direct aid for Georgia, providing funding for expanding hospital capacity, buying ventilators, and equipping healthcare workers with protective equipment. On the economic side, the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) has been a lifeline for small businesses and their employees. My opponent Jon Ossoff attacked this program even though it saved 1.5 million Georgia jobs. While we aren’t through this crisis yet, we are rebounding faster than many thought possible.”

On public safety:

“This summer, we watched as violent extremists hijacked peaceful protests and created anarchy in some of our American cities. I cosponsored the JUSTICE Act, a bill to invest in better training and practices for law enforcement. Ossoff wants to defund the police, an idea that would undermine public safety and increase divisive racial tensions.”

On Jon Ossoff’s radical socialist agenda:

“I’ve lived around the world, created tens of thousands of jobs in this country while my opponent Jon Ossoff, hasn’t created a single American job. I helped engineer this country’s economic turnaround using my forty years of business experience. When COVID-19 hit, I was one of the architects of the PPP, something that my opponent opposed even though his father’s own company profited from it… My opponent on the other hand has done business with Chinese communists. I strongly support investing in our police force with improved training, hiring, and operational procedures, and I condemned the violent protests that we see in cities run by Democrat mayors around the country. Ossoff wants to defund the police but runs ads falsely claiming to Georgians that he supports them. Lastly, I have a six-year track record of strongly supporting the U.S. military while my opponent wants to cut the military by closing bases in Georgia, which could cost 26,000 jobs for our military community.”

On passing additional COVID-19 relief:

“We certainly need to extend the PPP relief and other aid programs that have been so helpful to our citizens… The focus of the Republicans’ targeted relief bill is to help people get back to work, back to school, and beat this virus. Despite this, liberal Democrats, including my opponent Jon Ossoff, oppose this bill because they’d rather make it a political issue than help the American people. We couldn’t get even one Democrat to vote for extending PPP funding. They are putting their politics ahead of what’s best for the American people. The contrast could not be more clear.”

ICYMI: Senator Perdue Welcomes Ivanka Trump To Georgia

ICYMI: Senator Perdue Welcomes Ivanka Trump To Georgia

Yesterday, U.S. Senator David Perdue welcomed Ivanka Trump to Acworth, Georgia for a “fireside chat” about the historic results achieved in President Trump’s first term and what’s at stake in this upcoming election. Before their conversation, Ivanka Trump visited Pizza by Fuscos, an Acworth restaurant that was saved by a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan.

Check out some of the coverage:

vanka Trump, the president’s daughter, met with Perdue for a public “conversation” Tuesday afternoon in Acworth. They touched on the president’s pandemic response, economic record and plans for a “great American comeback” if he’s reelected.

“We all know what’s at stake Nov. 3,” Trump told about 80 supporters gathered at the Cowan Historic Mill. “That’s why we are fighting so hard. We will leave it on the field to make sure our president, my father, secures four more years.”

***

Later, [Ivanka] spoke about a wide range of issues with Perdue at the historic mill. Among other things, they agreed COVID-19 is the top issue in the final weeks of the campaign. Not surprisingly, both said the president has not gotten enough credit for his actions to stem the pandemic.

Read more here.

Interviewed by Perdue in front of 88 attendees, [Ivanka] Trump lauded her father’s policies and bills signed into law in his tenure in office, particularly those affecting the economy. She said in January, before the pandemic had arrived in the U.S., the country was experiencing record lows in unemployment among veterans, people with disabilities and those without college degrees.

***

Shannon Perren, an insurance broker in Cobb, enjoyed the event.

“I thought this event was very energetic,” Perren said. “It inspired me to go vote and protect policies that are incredibly important to me, my employees and my family.”

Joannie Jimenez, a stay-at-home mom in Norcross, said one thing she was particularly interested in was when Ivanka Trump said her father established permanent funding for historically Black colleges and universities.

“I believe everything she was saying is true,” Jimenez said. “I’m excited; it was really good.”

Ivanka Trump visited Acworth Tuesday for a discussion with Senator David Perdue, bringing together a crowd of more than 70 people to campaign for her father.

Another couple of dozen people were surprised when the president’s daughter stopped by an Acworth pizza shop.

The owners of Pizza by Fuscos told her the PPP loan kept their doors open.

Just minutes later, nearly 100 people gathered together at this outdoor deck at the Cowan Historic Mill to listen to Senator David Perdue and Mrs. Trump’s conversation.

COVID-19’s hold on the country and the economy were two topics at the forefront of this discussion.

***

Both Senator Perdue and Mrs. Trump took the occasional jab at former Vice President Joe Biden, directly comparing the pre-COVID-19 economy to that of former President Obama’s.

“For the worker and for the business owner, this was so important, as they fought back something that was no fault of their own,” she said.

The president’s daughter Ivanka Trump traveled here to Georgia today, making a couple stops in Acworth.

***

During her visit in downtown Acworth today, her first stop was at Pizza by Fuscos on South Main street where she greeted customers and spoke with the owners about how their small business is recovering during the pandemic. She even had a little fun making her own pizza.

***

And then she went over to the Cowan Historic Mill and had a one-on-one conversation with Senator David Perdue about the issues facing Georgians and our nation leading up to the election. There were about three dozen supporters on hand, all wearing masks and listening to the discussion focused on the Supreme Court nominations, the economy, criminal justice reform, the child tax credit, which Ivanka advised the president on, and of course COVID-19.

Senator Perdue Delivered Historic COVID-19 Relief

Since the outset of COVID-19, U.S. Senator David Perdue has fought to deliver critical resources to slow the spread and defeat this virus. During this crisis, he proactively connected with almost 1 million Georgians through constituent conference calls, providing them with the federal support and critical information they need to get through this challenging time.

Senator Perdue worked to pass the bipartisan CARES Act, which has been a lifeline for small businesses, healthcare workers, and families across the state of Georgia:

  • $47 billion in federal aid for the state of Georgia
  • $6.5 billion for hospitals and frontline healthcare workers
  • $14.5 billion in federal relief for Georgia business
  • 1.5 million Georgia jobs saved due to PPP
  • Hundreds of thousands of forgivable loans granted to businesses across the state

David also introduced the SCHOOL Act – a common sense plan to help our schools safely reopen or learn virtually. The SCHOOL Act:

  • Provides grants to local school districts to develop safe reopening strategies and secure necessary supplies including PPE
  • Connects health care professionals with local schools
  • Creates a clearinghouse to exchange best practices and new ideas
  • Establishes a transparent database so parents and health officials have access to the best possible data

David continues to encourage Georgians to follow CDC guidelines and public health protocols to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by:

  • Washing your hands
  • Watching your distance
  • Wearing a mask

Senator Perdue Led Greatest Economic Turnaround in U.S. History

As a former Fortune 500 CEO with a 40-year business career creating thousands of American jobs and helping people get from payday to payday, Senator David Perdue worked with President Trump to create the greatest turnaround in U.S. history before COVID-19.

Winning Economic Agenda:

  • Rolling back thousands of burdensome regulations
  • Unleashing energy potential
  • Cutting taxes for Georgia families and small businesses
  • Undoing the most overreaching parts of Dodd-Frank that were crushing community banks

The results have proven that what Senator Perdue believes in actually works. Before this unprecedented COVID-19 crisis:

  • Created 7.5 million new jobs.
  • Median household income the highest ever.
  • Small business and consumer confidence at record highs.
  • Lowest African-American, Asian, and Hispanic unemployment ever measured.
  • 6.6 million Americans lifted themselves out of poverty.

Senator Perdue’s winning agenda helped create the greatest economic turnaround in U.S. history. As we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic – prioritizing the health of Georgians and relief for our economy – the Perdue agenda will do it again!

ICYMI – Houston Home Journal Highlights Senator Perdue’s Remarkable Results for All Georgians

October 6, 2020  |

ICYMI – Houston Home Journal Highlights Senator Perdue’s Remarkable Results for All Georgians

Last week, U.S. Senator David Perdue spoke with Kristin Moriarty of the Houston Home Journal – the Senator’s hometown newspaper – about his 40-year business career, the remarkable results he’s delivered in the Senate so far, and what’s at stake in this upcoming election.

Read the Houston Home Journal’s profile of Senator Perdue here and below.

David Perdue is the senior Republican United States Senator from Georgia and has over 40 years of business experience as the former CEO of Reebok athletic brand and Dollar General stores. He was first elected to office in 2014 and wants to continue to serve the people.

Perdue was born in Macon, Georgia, and raised in Warner Robins where he grew up working on his family’s farm. Both of Perdue’s parents were school teachers, and from an early age, Perdue said he was taught the importance of hard work and a good education.

Perdue earned a degree in industrial engineering and a master’s in operations research while working warehouse and construction jobs at Georgia Tech. After graduating, he married his wife, Bonnie, whom he had met in the first grade, and they have been married for 46 years.

Prior to his decisive election to the U.S. Senate in 2014, Perdue had never held public office and was inspired to shake up Washington and change the direction of the country. Perdue said he is a champion for term limits for politicians, reining in out-of-control spending, growing the economy and tackling the nation’s debt crisis. In 2016, Perdue was an early supporter of President Donald J. Trump and continues to be one of the President’s closest allies in the U.S. Senate. For the 116th Congress, Perdue serves on the Armed Services, Banking, Budget, and Foreign Relations committees.

“I want to continue to serve and bring back the greatest economy President Trump and his administration had before the COVID-19 pandemic,” Perdue said. “But first we have to beat COVID and continue to develop a successful vaccine and other treatments. Before COVID, we had the best turnaround in history where 6.5 million people were able to pull themselves out of poverty. In contrast, prior to that in over 55 years of rural poverty, the level did not change, but in the past three years we helped those pull out.”

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, Perdue said his highest priority has been ensuring Georgians are protected and have the resources they need to get through this challenging time. He said he connected with almost one million Georgians through constituent conference calls, providing them with the resources and information they need to get through this challenging time.

Perdue worked to pass the bipartisan CARES Act which, included:

  • $46 billion in federal aid for the state of Georgia
  • $6.5 billion for hospitals and frontline health care workers
  • $14.5 billion in federal relief for Georgia business
  • 1.5 million Georgia jobs saved
  • Hundreds of thousands of forgivable loans granted to businesses across the state

Perdue also introduced the SCHOOL Act, which is a plan to help schools safely reopen or learn virtually until it is safe to return to the classroom.

Perdue set his priorities in 2014 and has accomplished the following:

  • The Port of Savannah has been fully funded for four years in a row and now is the top port for agricultural exports in the country
  • Robins Air Force Base has been named the home of a new mission, securing its long-term future
  • Fort Gordon in Augusta has become a cybersecurity leader
  • Production of Columbia class submarines is coming to Kings Bay
  • Rolled back regulations hurting farmers in Georgia and around the country, like the EPA’s Waters of the U.S. Rule
  • Got a Farm Bill across the finish line that, while not perfect, is a key investment in rural communities
  • Secured critical disaster relief for Georgia farmers hit hard by devastating storms

“I want everyone to vote, whatever their persuasion may be,” Perdue said. “This is a crucial election and will determine the future of our country both from a political and judicial point of view. If the Democrats take majority seats, they will work to change the three branches of government that this country was built upon. We need law and order. My opponent and his team have spent millions of dollars on ads fabricating that I voted against health care coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, when in fact, I actually have a bill in there to protect those with pre-existing conditions. They’re taking my vote against Obamacare and hiding behind that.

“Secondly, my opponent continues to spread false allegations of me benefiting in stock trade from the pandemic,” he went on to say. “We caught them in a lie, I was never in any of those meetings. All facts have been reviewed by the Securities Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice and by the bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee. All have stated there is no evidence to support those allegations and that there was no intent to take advantage.”

ICYMI – Times-Georgian Highlights Senator Perdue’s Support for Supreme Court Nominee, COVID-19 Relief for Georgia

September 29, 2020  |

ICYMI – Times-Georgian Highlights Senator Perdue’s Support for Supreme Court Nominee, COVID-19 Relief for Georgia

Senator David Perdue spoke with the Carrollton Times-Georgian’s Michael O’Hearn about his support for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, his work to deliver COVID-19 relief and save jobs, rural broadband access in Georgia, and more.

Read excerpts below and the full article here.

U.S. Sen. David Perdue said he fully supports the president’s Supreme Court nominee and plans to confirm her for the highest court of the nation by the time of the Nov. 3 election.

In an interview with the Times-Georgian on Monday, he said of new Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett that he was “delighted the president chose someone with a distinct career.”

“I think we’re going to go ahead and move straight ahead to a judiciary hearing the week after this one,” Perdue said. “With the timeframe that we are allowed, it will go straight to a confirmation vote in the Senate.”

***
He said, if he is reelected, he wants to make sure residents have access to labor, especially in the agriculture community. To do this, he has put forward an immigration system that would provide the type of workers needed to “protect American jobs and the pay scales for Americans.”

Earlier this year, he supported a congressional financial aid package of $2.9 trillion to employees impacted by the coronavirus, something he said he would not have “believed” when he was elected in 2014.

This includes the $660 billion Paycheck Protection Program, which he said went to some of the smallest businesses across the nation and their employees.

“We were told by public health officials that we had to protect America, which is what (President Donald) Trump did, and that’s what I wanted to do. In doing that, we had to protect our small businesses and the workers in those small businesses,” he said.

***

On broadband access, he said one of “the great learnings of COVID-19” was the need for connectivity when it comes to telehealth and students who are virtual learning from home.

He said this is not just a federal issue but will also take private-public partnership funding to expand access to rural communities.

“If you’re going to do telehealth and tele-education in a moment of crisis, you’ve got to have total access across the state,” he said. “We’ve been saying for years we don’t have broadband access in our rural communities. We have a full-court press on that…

“We’ve had urbanization over the last 30 years in Georgia. We need to have a rebirth in our rural areas, and I think the No. 1 way of doing that is providing rural broadband access.”
